After whoring out the link to my previous post on Rachael Ray and Michelle Malkin to family and friends, I’ve been getting a lot of hate toward Ms. Ray over IM and email. Is there a reason why many of you don’t like her? I admit I don’t know much about the woman, so I don’t have any reason to like her or dislike her. Could someone enlighten me on the positives and negatives of Rachael Ray? All I know is that she’s a cookbook author and a chef. Does she vocalise some sort of strange political or religious belief?

I think she’s sexy and have watched her show just to drool over her.

Well, she’s happy, cute, and successful. I guess that’s pretty threatening to the lonely, homely, and job-hating. Some people have a beef (pun fully intended) over the fact that she is not a classically-trained chef, but a good cook with an infectious personality. She’s just too damn accessible to the common person.

The only thing I find mildly annoying about her is that she seems to try too hard to be cute on her show. I’m pretty sure she’s been making up words and phrases since the show began, but it got a bit excessive. The hundredth time you hear “Yummo!” or her noting that you should use “Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or E.V.O.O. as I like to call it!” every time that she uses extra virgin olive oil in a show, it gets a bit annoying. I don’t really have any complaints though, she can cook better than I can and makes damn good money doing it. Living in Upstate New York is expensive, I know that first hand.

Oh, oh! I know!
People hate alliteration.
Proof: Ted Turner, Barry Bonds, Michelle Malkin.
Take that, alliterationists! Checkmate!

This was the exact reaction I had when I first heard about the story. I can’t remember the link now, but the tone was like, “we’re just looking for a way to beat up on Rachael Ray,” and her wikipedia article was so not helpful for an explanation as to *why* …

Here are my complaints about RR:
1: Her voice is pretty grating to me.
2: She’s fucking EVERYWHERE.
3: Her little catch-phrases (EVOO and Sammies and yumm-o etc).
Here’s what I like about her:
1: She’s really good at what she does – she’s like the Oprah of the culinary world.
2: The girl can cook.
3: She’s smarter than people give her credit for, and has a very good staff backing her.
4: The recipes in her magazine are actually pretty great. I got the gf a subscription, and almost everything we’ve made from her mag has been delicious.
She’s certainly not a terrorist. Annoying? Yeah. Terrorist? Come on.

GDad: That does sound like it can get anoying, however, every TV chef needs a gimmick or their shows are boring. BAM! I guarantee that she never says E.V.O.O. in her home kitchen.
Woot: I’m glad to see that I’m attracting commenters with the same intelligence level as an average Rational Response Squad groupie. I don’t see Ms. Ray as being fat. She may be a tiny bit heavy, but the brainless masculine demand that all women must be painfully skinny is degrading, disrespectful and damaging. I prefer a woman with meat on her bones, especially a chef. Never trust a skinny chef.

Her book really hurts when someone bashes you in the skull with it. I speak from experience here.

BRW, it could be worse. Try getting pelted rapid-fire with all the works of Christopher Hitchens. You never realise how many books from one author you own until a deranged “friend” throws them all at you.

There’s a voice/face disconnect. She has the voice of man and the face of a different one.

Kevin:
I just laughed hysterically. Now everyone in the cafe hates me. Thanks.

Somebody hates Rachie? She’s got the sexiest voice on the planet.

I think she’s really improved from her early days since doing her talk show. Yeah, she was super kitschy before. But she’s lost the over the top hand movements. She seems more at ease and relaxed.
And come on, at least she’s not fucking Sandra Lee. SHE is obnoxious. Rachael Ray actually has some talent. Sandra Lee is like a Betty Crocker succubus from the nether depths of Hell.
But Giada de Laurentiis is my queen regardless!

Herra, how do you pronounce your last name and where is it from?
