Friendly Atheist has the story of an interesting little dilemma going on just south of me, in North Carolina. Apparantly, there are people who are opposed to a bill that would put stricter guidelines on anti-bullying initiatives in schools. Our kids get beaten up less, and learn more? Sounds like an all around good idea, you’d think it would pas s with no opposition, right? That is, until the bill specifically says you can’t bully people based on sexual preference.
The main opponent of the bill Mark Creech, says this:
“The evil of the legislation is that it elevates sexual orientation and gender identity or expression on the same levels with the enumerations of race, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, physical appearance, mental, physical or sensory disability — which are all immutable or unchangeable characteristics.”
Why are people like this even allowed public forums? The man honestly believes that a student who is homosexual has less right to equal protection than an African American student, because while the African American can’t choose to be white, the homosexual student could choose to be straight, and therefore avoid the problem.
WHAT
THE FUCK
IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?

Oh, this so reminds me of the current measures taken to underline homophobia that is prevalent (in the news) coming from the Anglican church.
Mind you half the time I half expect those kinds of statements that you’ve printed “..immutable…” to be uttered from repressed people or denial being a characteristic (though I don’t have any proof either!!).

don’t worry, he’ll lose his authority once he’s caught being a hypocritical homo in a public toilet like the rest of these freaks.
maybe you could be a honey trap ;)

I don’t know whether to take that as a compliment or an insult. Remember, the Gaytheist is on hiatus, just the straight one here today. But you’re both right, the ones most avidly against something for no comprehensible reason are those usually closest to the OTHER side of the issue

Don’t even start about the Arsebitchop of Cunterbury! GYAARGH.
I could try and trap him with my girlfriend…
I will respond properly later.
Take care, everyone, especially you, Reed. Chin up.

CJ,
Please pass my thoughts to Reed. He shut off the comments on his most recent post. I hope for his safety and continued good health.

Interesting. I followed the link, first to Friendly Atheist, then to the link for the organization itself. Left a short message to the effect of, “What would Jesus do? Jesus. Remember him?”
The post was deleted.
