Physics of Piano Strings and Ben Folds’ Philosophy

Filed under: Science, Videos — Rev. J. Reed Braden @ 1:59 am

Here’s a concert bootleg from Richmond, VA.  ben Folds broke a string on the piano and explained a bit about how the innards of a piano work while his techies were replacing the string… then he tests out the new string on the song that, when he plays, breaks the most piano strings: Philosophy.

To all you young kids out there who never listened to a bootleg audiocassette, this is the same audio quality that your parents (and people like me who like to pretend they are from your parents’ generation… because you have a hot mom) had to put up with when they weren’t able to make it to the concert but their friends with tickets had tape recorders.

  3. Ben Folds is INCREDIBLE live. If you haven’t caught him on tour yet, DO IT. I last saw him at a school in Adrian, MI- and became a fan when he played several years back as I had free tickets I didn’t want to go to waste. COMPLETELY amazing.

Love the clip – thanks for posting it. :)
