Pastor Tells Straight, Married Parishioners to Fuck

Filed under: Religion, Sex — Rev. J. Reed Braden @ 9:14 pm

First the church calls its members sheep, now it tells them to fuck like bunnies.  What’s next?  “God wants you all to go to Weight Watchers, you cattle!”  Why can’t Christians just be humans?

But that’s his prerogative.  It sounds gimmicky to me, but it worked:  It got his church the attention he desired.  Personally, I think Alan Arkin’s advice in Little Miss Sunshine is better:

lms Grandpa: Can I give you some advice?
Dwayne: [shakes head "no"]
Grandpa: Well, I’m going to give it to you anyway. I don’t want you making the same mistakes I made when I was young. Dwayne, that’s your name, right? Dwayne? Listen to me, this is the voice of experience talking–are you listening? Fuck a lot of women, Dwayne.
Richard: Dad!
Grandpa: I got no reason to lie to you kid, fuck a lotta women. Not just one, a lot. So are you gettin’ any? Is it going anywhere?
Dwayne: [shakes head "no"]
Grandpa: No? Jesus! What are you? 15? You should be gettin’ that young stuff! That young stuff is the best stuff in the world!

  1. Awesome.

So now everybody should fuck like there’s no tomorrow now?

At least it’s a step towards casting off the shackles of (sexual) oppression.

  2. Yeah, but this will go horribly in the effort to ultimately make the church obsolete. Eventually, chastity will not be the ideal anymore and the church will focus on more egalitarian ideals…

We can all dream, can’t we? For everything else, there’s Atheism.

  3. Jessica, dear, as long as there are people who are different from churchgoers, people that churchgoers can hate, churches will thrive. Until we’re all 5′6″, 180 Lb., grey-skinned, bisexual agnostics, there will be churches to hate those who aren’t like them.

Maybe it’s just my pessimism, but I think that’s the only way religion will die out. Religion will fade away into community meetings and social meet-ups only after there’s no one to be divisive against.
